“Then men brought forth the conqueror from sticky light and dim:
Arrayed him in a royal robe and placed a crown on him.
A man prepared, was Joseph, to preserve a royal race:
To issue Pharaoh’s orders, and to live in Egypt’s grace.
Then Joseph thought upon the dreams of sheaves that came to bow
And of those years in prison, and the questions “why?” and “how?”
That strain and hard compression till he yielded to God’s will.
In the dungeon was the promise; on the throne God did fulfil.”*
